THE HISTORY OF DOVERY FOOTBALL

... from small acorns grow great things ...

The youth football team was originally formed in 1998 by the parents of children attending Dovery Down Lower School.  There was a growing demand to provide extra curricular activities for the children as a means of supplementing the teaching and other formal activities provided by the school itself.  Dovery Down Football Club was one of a number of initiatives which addressed this demand.

From these very early beginnings the Club has grown to a size where it is now providing football related activities, training and education to a significant proportion of the children attending the school and squads of players have been formed for all school years - starting right from Reception Year.

The Club now forms an integral part of school life at Dovery Down and provides an ever evolving range of extra-curricular participation in support of the development of the school and it's surroundings as a whole.  The Club's management, membership and supporting parents all believe in guided mental and physical development.

Over the years our training has evolved taking on new practices and methods from sources such as the FA and other football related organisations to ensure that we are providing the best environment and opportunities for our players to develop.  Parents are a key part of the organisation of the Club and as players become more proficient and more mature they too get to input into what the Club does.

The Club is one of the oldest and longest established youth teams in the Leighton Buzzard region and is well known among the group of local school teams who regularly play and train with each other providing a very diverse range of opportunities for our players to meet other children of similar age with a shared interest in football and related activities.

We participate in many local tournaments and hold our own events every year.  Players from our squads have also gone onto participate in other league youth teams organised by many of the regional academies and professional football teams such as Leighton Town, Luton Town etc.
